I had an interesting conversation with Carlos this evening about emotions and ego and taking things personally when the work is happening. I confessed that I have a sort of an inborn need to get things “right,” which is never really the point and often blocks creativity, and that I’ve been trying to learn not to have that any more.

He had good advice, which was: you’re not gonna change that about yourself. You have to use it, distort it, expand on it, mock it, but ignoring it or suppressing it is futile. Get used to it: it’s you.

Simple, but not obvious.
