After too few hours of uncomfortable sleep, one too-strong cup of coffee, and a longish car ride from Scott, a cellist who works with the company, I arrived at Double Edge in a state of jittery anticipation. Trainees now stay in a guest house down the road–and not only are laptops no longer banned, but there’s a wifi network in the house! How times change. I changed clothes, ate an apple, and was introduced to the quiet and oddball batch of trainees. There’s several who are returnees from previous trainings this year. With the addition of myself, there are twelve of us total, and I think two or three of us are staying for the summer spectacle.

There was individual work time immediately following my arrival, which I spent in conversation with a few of the trainees, getting acquainted, and wandering about getting used to the farm again, and reading tales of Sindbad the Sailor, stories that we’re using in the show. I napped a few minutes, stretched, didn’t know quite what to do with myself. It’s funny to come in in the middle.

So funny, and kind of amazing, to be here again! As I drove in the car with Scott, all the stress of the past few weeks drained away and all I had left was excitement. It doesn’t feel like I’ve been away two years–feels more like six months or so. Things have changed a bit–there’ll be no Tae Kwon Do this session, and there’s apparently not much outdoor work time either, so it’s just training, music, and individual work. I saw Hannah, Haley, Matthew, Adam, Todd–hurrah old peeps! They haven’t changed, except that Todd looks like a grownup now (almost.)

Things were quiet at dinner, and I remembered that whole double-edge focus and mood–everybody tired, everybody radiating, sort of solemn with bursts of humor. I’m looking forward to training. And now I think I am going to take a nap.

Love!
